Children’s toys – how to select them for your child
Toys aren’t merely a means to keep children occupied and entertained. Toys are an inherent part of your child’s development of motor skills, senses, and problem skills and can teach simple concepts from colours and shapes to complex skills such as reading books. Educational children’s toys are now extremely popular additions to playrooms as they can teach and occupy children for hours on end.
Whatever age your child is – a newborn, a three year old or a seven year old, toys will be useful. Therefore, it is important to be able to select appropriate ones based on your child’s age and learning capacity. Here are a few factors to take into consideration when buying educational children’s toys for your kids.
Select age appropriate toys. Most toys available are categorized according to the age for which they are designed, to help you decide what is appropriate. Babies and infants that are less than six months old still have not developed their motor skills. Therefore, Educational Toys that can boost hearing, sight and touch senses are appropriate for this age group. Toys For Infants should be soft and huggable and not cause any injury to the child. Colour blocks, soft books, Soft Toys, picture books and other toys with a variety of colours and patterns will be suitable for infants. Babies that still cannot crawl will enjoy the bright colours and solid shapes. Also, blocks will encourage crawling and movement when placed just out of an infant’s reach.
Toddlers can play with larger toys such as building blocks, push and pull toys, stacking blocks and nesting cups. Once children have started speaking and drawing, they can be given games such as puzzles, which are slightly advanced. When choosing Toys For Toddlers, select those that are challenging, but easy to master. Also, select toys a few months in advance, in case your child masters skills quickly and gets bored.
With advances in technology, toys for older children can include computer learning games and can be bought online. Many games that include transactions and quests teach math and logic skills, while also foster imagination.
When selecting children’s toys, watch how your child responds to the different toys. Try to engage them and find out their preferences to make sure that they are interested in the toy. Also, buy children’s toys that are educational on a variety of levels.
